Margaret Curphey died aged 86 in March this year
A concert is to be held in Douglas tonight (1 November) paying tribute to an internationally renowned opera singer from the Isle of Man.
Margaret Curphey died aged 86 back in March this year.
She was born here on the Island in 1938 and had a glittering career as a soprano - including becoming a principal member of Sadlers Wells Opera, which later became the English National Opera - before retiring back on the Island.
Tonight's concert will feature the Glenfaba Chorale and the 2024 Cleveland Medal Winner, alongside a whole host of other musical talents, as well as recordings of Margaret herself.
Margaret's sister Muriel Corkish and her husband Philip Summerscales, told Howard Caine more:
The concert is being held at St Andrew's Church in Douglas from 7.30pm this evening.
It's free to attend, but donations are welcome in aid of the charity Forget Me Not, which supported Margaret and her family towards the end of her life.
You can hear more from Muriel and Philip in the latest Spotlight, available to listen back to now as a podcast here.
