Ageing RNLI building has safety issue with winch
The future operation of the Douglas RNLI station is to be the subject of a comprehensive consultation process to determine the best way forward.
Currently Douglas' Mersey class lifeboat uses the berth built for passengers from visiting liners, as the ageing RNLI building has a safety issue with a winch.
The Mersey Class boat is one of only two left in service and is scheduled to be retired in 2025.
The RNLI says it is confident the review will secure a way forward and help substantiate negotiations with the Manx Government as they continue to work closely to achieve a viable, cost effective solution for the Douglas station.
