Company ordered to pay rolling fine until building demolished or fixed

Investment firm taken to court by Ramsey Town Commissioners

An investment company on the Isle of Man has been fined £1,500 after failing to carry out work on Victoria Mall in Ramsey.

Gecko Investments Limited was also ordered to pay £50 per day until the work is complete or the building, on Christian Street, is demolished.

The company's director pleaded guilty to failing to comply to the notice, issued by Ramsey Town Commissioners, in December 2023.

Gecko Investments had until April 2024 to 'make good' the building's roof, render, entrance doors, windows, gutters and external columns.

The work went undone despite the company holding a demolition notice for the building since July 2022.

The company's advocate argued her client felt the works 'were not felt to be needed' as the intention was to demolish the property.

Issuing the fine at Douglas Courthouse magistrates said: "This matter has dragged on for some considerable time."

Gecko Investments Limited will also have to pay £8,612.52 in costs which otherwise would have 'clearly been borne by the ratepayer'.
