Community service for Jurby man who damaged ex-girlfriend’s car after row

32-year-old caused £400 worth of damage

A Jurby man has been ordered to carry out community service after damaging his ex-girlfriend’s car after an argument.

William Thomas Prince, of The Threshold, smashed her windscreen, rear lights, and wing mirrors on 18 April.

The 32-year-old had met with three people in a field off Summerhill Road just before 3pm – an argument escalated when Prince grabbed his ex-partner round the neck.

After releasing her, and driving off, Prince went up to her Ford Focus and kicked both wing mirrors before getting a metal bar and causing more damage.

Prince admitted causing damage to her property and provoking behaviour – he also admitted using threatening, disorderly, or insulting words or behaviour, towards members of the group involved, in Ramsey, on 15 May.

During sentencing his advocate told the court there was some ‘bitterness’ between the group following a previous court case but said there was provocation to the incident.

“Mr Prince was targeted and sought out by the three ladies,” he said: “Quite why they were in Jurby, in his mother’s field, is unknown.”

Admitting that Prince’s response had been ‘inappropriate’ he added: “He ought to have maintained his self-control and discipline.”

“Mr Prince must learn to control his anger and emotions when confronted.” Jim Travers (Advocate)

Agreeing there was some ‘provocation’ to the incident High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Prince: “You should not have reacted.”

She imposed a combination order of 100 hours of unpaid work and 18 months of probation.

Prince must also pay £250 in prosecution costs and £400 in compensation.
