Chair of Ramsey Commissioners says not enough money for housing in Budget

Rob Cowell says it's 'disappointing' no money set for flood defence work on quay

The chair of Ramsey Commissioners says an 'additional' £2 million in the Housing Deficiency Fund isn't enough for local authorities to satisfy the housing need.

Rob Cowell believes the budget set by Treasury is 'just words' and hasn't put any money behind projects needed for the town.

The Treasury said it will be submitting capital bids for Albert Road and Close Woirrey housing schemes, as well as working on a replacement to Cummal Mooar.

A bid will also be put forward for the refurbishment of the West Quay including flood works - which Mr Cowell says is 'disappointing' that no money has been granted for it.

However, he says funding allocated to the Ramsey Shipyard is 'great' and hopes it will support them with current apprenticeship schemes and other 'fundamental' work.

It's been allocated £500,000 this financial year and will receive a further £400,000 in 2026/2027.
