Castletown Commissioners propose parking changes

Local authority considering a number of alterations

Castletown Commissioners are asking residents to comment on a raft of proposed changes to parking in the ancient capital.

A number of ideas have been put forward by the local authority.

Car parks at the Grammar School, Malew Steet and George Paddock would change to two-hour free parking, with a £1 charge for the rest of the day under the proposals.

Those leaving their vehicles at Barracks Square and the Fire Station will be restricted to a 30 minute stop.

Commissioners also propose that allocated parking won't be offered to new applicants, except for those with a 'justifiable' need such as blue badge holders, or members of on-call emergency services.

Any money raised from weekly and annual permits, available at £5 and £250 respectively, will be set aside for investment in parking and active travel infrastructure

Those who'd like to give feedback on the proposals are asked to write to the Town Hall, or email the commisisoners' clerk by 25 March.

The full list of changes can be found via the local authority's Facebook page.
