DEFA moving to 'alternative model'
Cancelling the Food and Drink Festival shows a real disconnect between government and local producers, according to one stall holder.
The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture says it's moving to an 'alternative model' this year.
It says while the news will disappoint some, it's decided to "use the budget to drive new initiatives that will promote and support local producers in exciting new ways".
These include:
• An increased presence at the Southern and Royal Manx Agricultural Shows
• New events that will provide food businesses with the opportunity to showcase their products to on and off-Island food buyers.
• An enhanced guide to showcase Manx produce.
DEFA says it's also collaborating closely with the Department for Enterprise to explore further opportunities for the year ahead and continues to offer a range of grants to help local food and drink businesses to develop and succeed.
The two-day event was due to take place in September, and last year around 10,000 people attended.
