Budget was attempt to 'buy in votes' ahead of General Election says MHK

John Wannenburgh questions continued use of reserves

An MHK has accused the Treasury of using this year’s Budget as an attempt to ‘buy in votes’ ahead of the next General Election.

Douglas North politician John Wannenburgh voted against the 12-month financial plan in Tynwald this week (18 February) saying it wasn’t securing the future of the next generations.

Treasury claims it will continue to reduce its reliance on reserves over the next five years but is expecting to withdraw £110 million to balance the budget in 2025/26.
