'Broadcasting legend' Terry Cringle dies aged 91

Renowned Manx journalist retired just two years ago

Long-serving Manx Radio presenter and renowned Manx journalist, Terry Cringle, has passed away at the age of 91.

A member of the industry for more than 70 years, Terry joined Manx Radio in 1969 - working in the newsroom and producing a number of programmes including 'The Cringle File' and 'History Man'.

John Moss looks back at Terry’s life:

Retiring at the age of 89 in 2020, Terry said he'd been a lucky man:

Terry's former Manx Radio colleague, Charles Guard, paid tribute live on the Breakfast programme this morning:

Managing Director of Manx Radio, Chris Sully, said: “On behalf of all of Terry’s many friends at Manx Radio, I’d like to say how sorry we were to hear of his passing.

"Terry was a fantastic and much respected journalist and presenter. His ‘History Man’ feature is still hugely popular on the Sunday Breakfast show and is one of our most listened to podcasts and downloads.

"Terry and I had some happy times exchanging stories about our respective times with the Royal Air Force and I’ll miss his humour, knowledge and the glint in his eye as he recalled the people and places he’d come across.

"Broadcasting House has a huge Terry Cringle shaped hole at its heart today”.
