The letter was discussed at last night's public meeting

Bride Commissioners met last night, discussing letters it's received about the Northern Civic Amenity Site.

A number of letters were sent to the board over the past month about NCAS – these included one from Andreas Commissioners and one from an MHK.

The letter from Andreas Commissioners claimed a dumped fridge was the fault of Bride Commissioners, and a resident has contacted them to collect their waste and take it to the civic amenity site.

It was responded to, but the clerk confirmed a reply from Andreas Commissioners hadn’t been received.

A second letter was sent by an MHK – whose name and constituency weren’t disclosed – asking for their perspective about the NCAS.

The clerk said she passed on all the information she had gathered about the site including publicly available information and figures from previous statements.

She said a response was received back, and she claims this MHK was on their side and understood their situation – the letter was quoted as saying there are ‘stark inequalities’ between what Bride residents pay and other residents in the north.

The commissioners agreed to reply back to the MHK.

Also on the agenda was an update from the Northern Swimming Pool board that new lockers have been installed.

Commissioner Ann Carter, the representative on the committee, said the locks on some of the units were broken, and these had to be replaced.

A local company was ‘sourced’ to carry out the work which has now been completed.

And a phone box in the parish will be reconnected to the main phone lines.

The local authority was offered the opportunity to take it over and turn it into a community facility like a defibrillator or book swap.

However, the board agreed to keep it as a working phone box, but it wasn’t confirmed when it would be up and running.

Bride Commissioners will next meet on Tuesday, 19 November.
