Manx Care waiting for locums from UK to assist
Women waiting for appointments at the Manx Breast Clinic will have to wait longer to be seen due to staff shortages.
Manx Care says it’s currently experiencing some disruption due to lack of immediate locum availability.
This is affecting the regular assessment clinic for new referrals and causing issues for people who need to be recalled from the breast screening service.
All ‘One Stop’ appointments are being cancelled and rebooked with what the health body has described as a ‘short delay’ of no more than seven days.
Women requiring a follow-up appointment, following a screening mammogram, will be provided an appointment ‘as soon as possible’ but have been told this may be at the Nightingale Breast Centre in Manchester instead.
Temporary doctor cover has been secured with Manx Care saying the delay is due to the availability of the replacement consultants who are coming from the UK to assist.
Breast cancer surgery remains unaffected.
Anyone who feels they have an issue is asked to contact their GP or the breast care nurse on 650194.
Manx Radio has asked Manx Care to confirm how many appointments it is cancelling.
