Tips issued to avoid major countryside fires
As summer approaches, Islanders are being reminded to take extra care to prevent outdoor fires.
A major gorse fire was narrowly avoided in the west of the Island last week - it's not known what caused the blaze, but the recent dry weather played a large part.
Woodland blazes are a fairly common incidence in the summer months, and can take many hours to bring under control.
Last May, flames engulfed the hills around Laxey when a homeowner's bonfire reignited.
Other common causes can include disposable barbecues and discarded glass items.
