Bereaved father welcomes potential new approach to Island drug policy

Tynwald backed new policy principles in November 2024

A bereaved father on the Isle of Man has welcomed a new approach to drug policy on the Isle of Man saying any steps that would lessen the impact of illicit substances should be taken.

Ray Lakeman’s two sons died in 2014 from an MDMA overdose; they’d purchased the drug on the dark web.

Last year Tynwald backed new policy principles from the Council of Ministers which is looking at how it can reduce the harms associated with drug use.

It follows a directive from Tynwald in November 2023 - which was prompted by a report from Liverpool John Moore's University Public Health Institute on potential policy changes.
