Ballasalla man sexually assaulted teenager on bus

38-year-old will be sentenced at Court of General Gaol Delivery

A Ballasalla man will be sentenced later this year after admitting sexually assaulting a teenager on a bus.

Craig Phillip Teare, of Crossag Close, appeared at Douglas Courthouse where he pleaded guilty.

The victim was travelling to work at around 6:40pm on 14 May when Teare boarded the bus a few stops later.

Onboard CCTV shows the woman 'trapped' between the 38-year-old and the window of the vehicle before she approached another passenger for help.

Teare attempted to kiss her, groped her, and followed her off the bus and into her place of work.

Once there she alerted her manager who had him ejected from the premises and called the police.

She said her 'legs were like jelly' and she was left 'feeling sick' after the incident.

Magistrates elevated the case to the Court of General Gaol Delivery where sentencing powers are greater.

Committal proceedings will take place on 31 May; he remains in custody at the Isle of Man Prison.

Update: At Douglas Courthouse on 7 August Teare was jailed for two years and nine months.
