Bill now needs to be signed before being submitted for Royal Assent
The Assisted Dying Bill will progress to the next stage after the Legislative Council voted to accept the House of Keys' changes to the proposals.
MHKs didn't support all the amendments made to the bill by MLCs, including a change to reduce the residency requirements.
While some members voiced concerns this morning that the five-year residency was too long and could raise human rights challenges, they opted to support the decisions made in the House.
Rob Mercer, who moved the bill in the upper chamber, believes the changes made in Keys and by the Council have made it better:
The Bill will now need to be signed by five MLCs and 13 MHKs before it can be submitted for Royal Assent.
