Amber weather warning for ice brought in

Road surface temperatures expected to fall below freezing

An amber weather warning for ice has come into force on the Isle of Man.

Ronaldsway Met Office says road surface temperatures are widely expected to be below freezing overnight.

As most surfaces remain damp, or wet, this will bring a significant risk of ice forming on untreated surfaces particularly where wintry showers occurred earlier today (9 January).

Any slushy accumulations which still remain could ‘freeze hard’ as a result.

The whole Island is said to be at risk but sheltered low-lying spots in central, southern and western parts are most likely to be affected.

The weather warning will remain in place until 12pm tomorrow (10 January).

The following areas will be gritted tonight: 

• Bus routes in and around Douglas and Onchan 
• Pulrose
• Anagh Coar
• Willaston (including Greenfield Road)
• Birch Hill (including access to Ashley Hill School)
• Windermere Drive

The Department of Infrastructure says winter gritter routes in the south, north, east and west will also be treated.
