Manage your waste more responsibly
Companies attempting to dump over-sized or hazardous items at the Energy from Waste Plant will face financial penalties from today (January 1).
Infrastructure chiefs want to recoup the cost of handling non-conforming waste after a number of blockages at the Richmond Hill facility.
From now, firms will be charged a handling fee of up to £105 to remove the waste and reload it into their vehicles.
Last year, the site had to be shut down on three separate occasions in the space of a week due to blockages.
Most recently, the plant was taken offline while part of a skip or metal container was removed.
Clearing problems can take up to 48-hours - costing thousands of pounds, as the system is cooled before engineers can access and decontaminate it.
Non-conforming items include; bulky tree trunks and stumps, scaffolding poles, plasterboard, and asbestos.
All users are advised of the changes.
Repeated incidents will result in charges imposed being doubled or tripled.
