Tynwald follows duty increase in UK budget
Tynwald unanimously approved above-inflation rises in the price of tobacco this week.
The treasury minister, who brought the proposal to the court, said the amendments to the Tobacco Products Duty Act of 1986 were to bring Manx regulations in line with those in the UK.
Alf Cannan added that because of the Customs and Excise Agreement in place, we're obliged to follow the changes which were announced in the UK budget last month.
He told members more about the size of the rise:
'Power of veto' might help get difficult decisions through, says chief minister
Gas prices to remain unchanged for 2026
Ramsey Commissioners not adding 'optional' one percent increase to social housing rents
New gynaecology clinic room will 'significantly increase capacity'
