Everything you need to know for today and beyond
Hundreds of students across the Isle of Man will be getting their A-Level results today (15 August).
Enrolment figures for 2023/24 released earlier this year showed there were 407 students in year 12 and 408 in year 13 across the Island's five schools.
The sixth formers will collect their grades from their secondary schools or University College Isle of Man depending on where they've studied.
Support will be available to those considering their next steps – whether that be taking up a university place, entering the clearing process, seeking further study or entering employment.
Careers advisors will also be available at UCM and the Job Centre from today with slots also bookable at schools across the Island.
It's a nerve-wracking day for students and parents alike - so what can you expect?
All you need to do is collect your exam results from your school and check online to see if you've been accepted to your university of choice.
Even if it doesn't go to plan and you don't get the results you hoped for, you may still get into your first choice, or you may get into another option through clearing.
How do I get my results?
You simply go to your school - with your ID if your school has requested it - and pick them up!
Results will not be given out by a school to anyone other than the student unless it has been specifically requested beforehand.
Depending on which school you go to, you may have to go in at a different time:
- Ballakermeen - A-Levels from 8am and AS from 12 noon
- St Ninian's - A-Levels and AS from 8am
- QEII - A-Levels and AS from 8:30am
- Ramsey Grammar School - A-Levels between 8.30am and 12.30pm in the Hector Duff Centre, AS from 11am
- Castle Rushen High School - A Levels from 9am, AS from 10am
- UCM - BTEC Level 3, OCR Cambridge Technicals, UAL Level 3 & 4, NCFE Level 3, A-levels all from 9am at Homefield Road reception
If you're waiting to see if you got into university, you'll also need to check if you got in!
How does UCAS work?
If you've applied to go to university, you'll find out your status through your profile on the UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) website this morning.
You'll have applied to up to five different universities for the same course - or five different courses at the same university - via one UCAS application earlier this year.
Today, you'll receive a status update on that application.
If you've got the results you needed, you'll have a firm place confirmed, and you'll be off to your first-choice university in September.
If you didn't quite get there, you may have to go through clearing.
This involves using the UCAS course search tool before contacting universities or colleges you're interested in directly.
It's really important you have your UCAS number, your clearing number, and results to hand.
And this option isn't just for those who failed to get the results they wanted - you may have done better than you thought you would and want to try for a different course or university.
