Unemployment up marginally in August

Catering and entertainment sector highest number of vacancies

Unemployment went up marginally in August.

The registered number of unemployed increased to 337  . . up by just three people compared to July.

The figure represents an unemployment rate of 0.8%, with the figure made up of 228 men and 109 women.

The Catering and entertainment sector had the highest number of job vacancies during the month, with 136 postitions to fill, whilst the 'other business services sector had the highest number of unemployed people listed, with a figure of 52.

The largest number of long-term unemployed - where people have been out of work for  12 months or longer - is among the over 55's who make up 41% of the sector.

Of those out of work, 229 of the total figure were in the east of the Island, with just 16 in the west.
