TT carriers prepare for passenger spike

 

A scramble's expected for the last available seats on ferries and flights to the TT, as bookings for the festival soar.

More than 11,700 motorbikes have been booked on Steam Packet sailings for the fortnight, up around six per cent on 2013.

Passenger figures are up by four per cent to just over 29,500 while 3,900 cars, vans and trailers will be ferried over, an increase of five per cent on last year. 

In the air, Island-based Citywing says flights from the five UK airports it operates from are almost fully booked, with just a handful of flights still available.

The Manx firm's sold 5000 seats across an extended TT timetable, with Friday 30 May their busiest single day of the fortnight.

Managing director David Buck says the rush for seats by bike fans will be affecting availability for non TT passengers - but they can't extend capacity any more this year.
