Post Office celebrates Wordsworth

Set of Stamps released

The Isle of Man Post Office is commemorating the 250th anniversary of one of Britain’s best-known romantic poets.

William Wordsworth is to be featured on a set of stamps, with extracts of his poems written alongside pictures of Manx scenes.

The poet came to the Island with his wife Dorothy in 1833 and he consequently wrote a number of sonnets inspired by the place.

During his visit, Wordsworth ascended Snaefell, looked out at Peel bay and spent time in Ballasalla and Rushen Abbey.
