Lawyer addresses Geneva conference

Dickinson Cruickshank partner John Rimmer has been to Geneva to make a presentation on developments within the trust world, and challenges facing offshore centres.

He spoke at the Transcontinental Trusts conference, a two day event partly sponsored by Isle of Man Finance, which brought together leading lawyers from Britain and Europe to address an audience of international delegates.

John is based in the Douglas office and the chairman of the Isle of Man branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. He specialises in trusts, wills and all aspects of private client capital. His speech, entitled 'Hands Off! - Keeping Foreign Laws and Courts in Their Place' examined the difficulties facing courts in one jurisdiction in dealing with trusts established in others. It asked questions such as how the courts of the offshore financial centres will respond to judgments given in 'onshore' jurisdictions.
