The Isle of Man’s Office of Fair Trading is warning people about the dangers of buying counterfeit goods.
A survey in the United Kingdom revealed two thirds of shoppers would be happy to buy fakes, which has led to an epidemic of counterfeiting.
The OFT says up to 100,000 jobs per year are lost in the UK and EU because of fake manufacturing, which it says goes to fund terrorism, people trafficking, drugs, pornography and money laundering.
On top of this, the OFT adds shoppers are often unaware of the potential dangers of counterfeit goods, which can be shoddy quality and not up to safety standards.
The message is clear - These bargains might come at a much higher price than you expect and if it looks too good to be true it probably is!
