Reading shed at Laxey School named in honour of 'greatly missed' volunteer

David Cowley's grandson cuts ribbon on new space

Laxey School has unveiled a new reading shed on its grounds named in honour of a man who used to read to the students there.

The ribbon on the new facility has been cut by David Cowley's grandson Alex today (23 April).

David, who passed away earlier this year, would volunteer at the school.

Head of School Craig Astin told Manx Radio: "David has been a valuable asset to our community school, dedicating many years to listening to our pupils read and generously giving up his own time.

"His commitment and passion for supporting our pupils' reading has positively impacted their fluency, confidence, and comprehension. His efforts have fostered a love of reading among our pupils. He will be greatly missed by both staff and pupils."
