UCM students take part in 'invaluable experience'
Two students from University College Isle of Man came out on top in a recent Pan-Island Skills Test held in Guernsey.
Freddie Kermode and Brooke Goldsmith came first in Brickwork, and Painting and Decorating challenges respectively.
Overall, ten apprentices from UCM competed in the event, which was held on Friday 14 February during National Apprenticeship Week, against peers from Highlands College Jersey and the Guernsey Institute.
In addition to the two first places, Carpentry and Joinery student Adrian Chisoi’s skills were also recognised with a second-place award.
The students took on tasks relating to carpentry and joinery, electrical installation, plumbing, brickwork, and painting and decorating.
UCM Principal, Jesamine Kelly, says: "We are incredibly proud of our apprentices for taking part in this year’s Pan-Island Skills Test. Not only did they show their high level of technical skills, but they also represented our Island with professionalism and enthusiasm.
"This experience will undoubtedly benefit them as they continue their apprenticeships and progress in their careers. Congratulations to all participants!"
UCM says regardless of the final results, all apprentices should feel proud of their achievements, having gained 'invaluable experience and confidence' that will support them in their future careers.
