DoI to hike wood disposal by 199% from April

Local authorities warn of rate hikes to compensate

The price of disposing wood at the Energy From Waste Plant on the Isle of Man is set to increase by almost 200 per cent.

The Department of Infrastructure is also hiking domestic waste disposal fees by 7.2 per cent from April.

Since 2008 the DoI has been subsidising the disposal of wood at amenity sites – something that’s believed to cost taxpayers around £300,000 a year.

Some local authorities have warned residents they’ll have to hike rates to compensate.
